EPISODE 28 OF
Hello lovelies,
Welcome to Episode 28 of the Get Knit Done podcast.
After promising it for last week, this week I’m talking about how reading Hyperfocus by Chris Bailey to help tame my flibbertigibbet nature has helped me focus more on my knitting.
In this episode I talk about the following areas from the book:
- Switching off autopilot mode (I originally typed Swatching off there … honestly!)
- The limits of your attention
- The Power of Hyperfocus
- Taming Distractions
- Making hyperfocus a habit
There are more sections in the book but not all quite as relevant to knitting!
Overall, it made me realise that while I love knitting on autopilot and splitting my attention between knitting and something else (like TV in the evenings), if I want to do more adventurous knitting I am going to have to schedule in time where I am focused exclusively on those knits!
I think I have found it much easier recently to just settle into socks and when I’m designing I obviously focus on it but I miss more complex knits, particularly sweaters! Of course, I’ll be casting on Anniken Allis’s Cadson as part of the March knit-a-long in Knit School and that lace will definitely need quite a bit of my attention to start off!
Next week I’ll be sharing the next Desert Island Knits episode with the awesome Pippa of PipsRainbow and after that, it’ll be time for an episode about whether or not you should turn your knitting into a business!
And with that said, go get Knit done … perhaps with a tiny bit more focus!

I started Knit School and the Get Knit Done podcast because I met a lot of knitters who were nervous about taking the leap to more advanced patterns & techniques and I wanted to help knitters to feel that they CAN KNIT ANYTHING they want! Knitting is definitely not rocket science and everyone can be an awesome knitter including you!
